MBA Syllabus:-

First Semester:-

Management Concepts & Organisational Behavior:- The objective of this foundation course is to develop basic understanding about management concepts as well as human aspects of management in various management processes within an organisation.

Managerial Economics:- To develop the ability to apply the concepts, tools and techniques of Economics in analysing and interpreting business decisions. The course includes discussions on Demand Analysis, Production Analysis and Price/Output decisions under different forms of Market.

Quantitative Methods:- The objective of this course is to apply different mathematical and statistical tools and techniques for business decision making.

Financial and Cost Accounting:- This foundation course aims at familiarising the students with the concepts, techniques and processes used in generating accounting information needed for informed decision making.

Human Resource Management:- The purpose of this course is to promote the understanding the issues relating to utilisation, development and contribution of human resources in an organisation, manpower policy, planning at macro and micro levels, industrial relations and participative management.

Business Environment:- The operation, control and management of any business organisation are conditioned by the environment in which it exists. This course analyses and develops the various economic socio-cultural, legal and political factors in the Indian context.

Business Communication:- This course highlights the importance of the oral and written communication as a cognitive tool to enhance the efficiency of business transactions.
 
Tax Laws:- This course covers the basis for taxation and various heads of income including the deductions available for each particular head and deductions available in general for computation of income.  it gives insight into indirect tax laws, i.e. sales tax, excise and customs.

Second Semester:-

Financial Management:- This course exposes the students to the conceptual framework for corporate financial decision making. It explains how to make investment decisions, introduces techniques for strengthening working capital management and looks at the implications of financing through different sources and implications of dividend decisions.

Management Accounting:- The thrust of this course is to make the participants conversant with the information generated by full costing, differential accounting and responsibility accounting in the context of decision-making, planning and control process.

Organisational Change & Development:- The focus of this course is to advance the understanding of the characteristics and processes of change and development affecting the working of an organisation.

Marketing Management:-This course develops the societal, managerial and strategic underpinnings of marketing theory and practice, presents principles for measuring and forecasting markets, examines issues in designing marketing strategies during different stages of product life cycle and discusses planning, implementation and control of marketing efforts.

Operations Research & Systems Modelling:- The objective of this course is to apply mathematical, statistical and operations research tools and techniques for managerial decision making.

Production & Operations Management:- This course is designed to acquaint the students with basic management decisions with respect to production function and the effective utilisation of the materials in manufacturing and service organisation.

Computer Applications in Management:- This course aims to acquaint the students with computer systems and applications in functional and sectoral areas of management. It exposes the students to various software used for managerial problem solving and decision making.

Research Methods in Management:- This course gives orientation towards methods of conducting scientific research, which in turn helps managers in taking effective decisions.

Summer Project:- Students undergo summer training for a period of eight weeks in an organisation and area of their choice. This gives them a balanced perspective of practical situations and thus instills in them a mature outlook for future managerial activities and decisions.
 
Third Semester:-

Compulsory Courses

Strategic Management:- This course deals with the concepts of strategy, policy, strategic planning, competitiveness and also focuses on the strategic management process. Special emphasis is given to contemporary topics such as benchmarking, BPR, Core Competency, Strategic Alliances.

Business Law:- This purpose of this course is to impart the basic knowledge of legalities related to business transactions and provisions of Contract Act, Negotiable Instruments Act, Companies Act and Partnership Act.

Elective Courses

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Security Analysis and Portfolio Management:- This course exposes the students to methods and techniques for analysing investment opportunities in securities i.e. bonds, preferred stock, equity shares, convertibles, options, futures etc. It explains how to assess one's financial condition in order to increase the effectiveness of personal investing. The material presented blends facts and theories with traditional and modern approaches to making investment decisions.

Management Planning and Control Systems:- This course aims to develop systems analysis and design skills among students in the area of annual operations planning and management control. It focuses on responsibility centers. In addition, special control situations like service, multinational, project and non-profit organisation are also treated in depth. Project Management This course covers the management of a project during its life cycle. Starting with generation of ideas, it covers technical feasibility, market feasibility, economic and financial viability, project organisation, project scheduling, resource  cheduling, resource leveling, monitoring and control aspects.

Indian Financial System:- This course aims at providing a broad framework of India's financial system, its constituents, their linkages and the regulatory mechanism under which it operates. The course content includes a study of the financial markets, financial intermediation, funds flow analysis of financial markets, term structure of interest rates, the role of development banks, LIC, GIC, UTI and NBFCs.

Corporate Tax Management:- This course covers the various facets of corporate management from tax angle e.g. the type and nature of business, location, executive remuneration, capital structure, research and development policies, capital budgeting decision, amalgamation, foreign collaboration, leasing etc.

International Financial Management:- The objective of this course is to provide a conceptual framework within which the key financial decisions of the multinational firm can be analysed. It aims at developing the basic skills to analyse the working of international financial and trading systems.


MARKETING MANAGEMENT

Advertising Management:- This course takes a simulated and conceptual look at various aspects like situation analysis, objective setting, positioning, message development, media decisions, budgeting, applications, and issues in advertising and real life case studies.

Marketing Research:- It addresses some frequently asked questions by researchers viz. when and where to use Marketing Research, applications of marketing research, planning a research project, aids in data collection, data analysis techniques, presentation of research findings.

Consumer Behaviour:- This course introduces students to the development of the study of consumer behaviour, its relevance in various fields: the consumer as an individual and dynamics, the social and cultural dimensions of consumer behaviour and people dynamics and role of consumer behaviour in a societal context.

Industrial Marketing:- Industrial marketing equips the students with the skills required for selling goods or services to businesses or other organisations. It deals with areas of marketing planning, market research, demand analysis, sales promotion, product policy, marketing channels, pricing and personal selling.

International Marketing Management:- This course deals with the framework of international marketing, recent trends in Indian foreign trade, EXIM policy, export finance and infrastructure documentation and management of risk in international trade.

Sales Force Management:- It introduces students to finer aspects of building and managing a team of effective sales personnel, addressing issues like planning, directing, evaluating the sales effort, retailing, direct selling and territory & time management.


HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

Advanced Personnel Management:- It covers various aspects of Personnel Management & an in-depth knowledge of contemporary issues such as Development of Human Resources, Performance Appraisal, Organisational Culture and Climate, Human Resource Information Systems and Employment Contract.

Wage and Salary Administration:-

The topics covered in this course range from surveys of present day compensation criteria and trends, requirements, incentives, perks to other issues connected with remuneration,
both monetary and non-monetary.

Labour Legislation:-

The labour laws covered are Factories Act, 1948, Industrial Dispute Act, 1947, Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946, Minimum Wages Act, 1948, Payment of Bonus Act, 1965,
Payment of Wages Act, 1936,  Trade Unions Act, 1926, Employees State Insurance Act, 1948, EPF and Misc. Provisions Act, 1952.

Industrial Relations:-

Concept of I.R., Trade Unions, Collective Bargaining, Worker Participation and Industrial Democracy, Grievance Handling Procedure, Industrial Conflict, Labour Welfare, Technology & I.R., Labour Policy & Labour Economics.

Forth Semester:-

Management Information Systems:- This course familiarises the students with the identification, collection, analysis and application of business information in an organisation and also to develop a basic understanding about the use of information systems in operational control and strategic planning.

Public Enterprise Management:- This course acquaints the students with the philosophy, management and operational problems of public enterprises in India.

Business Policy:- This course emphasises on role-play, case studies and simulation exercises. Groups of students play a game, which takes them through a typical strategic management process cycle based on a selected Indian industry.
